Consultation about the National Sports Strategy - 2031

About the Consultation:

In June 2023, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the National Sports Strategy - 2031. During an official press conference, the General Authority of Sports elaborated the strategy which marked the initiation of an all-encompassing national strategy focusing on the sports sector of the country. The strategy includes 17 transformational and strategic initiatives, which will be introduced in three phases by 2031.

The key goal of the strategy is to attain the following three main objectives:

·       Raise the participation in sports events to 71 per cent of the population, from 43 per cent, by 2031.

·       Increase the number of athletes who qualify for the Olympics to more than 30.

·       Enhance the economic contribution of the sports sector to the gross domestic product (GDP) from 0.06 per cent in 2018 to 0.5 per cent by 2031.

In order to fulfil these objectives, the new strategy focuses on a unique vision of establishing a remarkable and globally renowned sports sector that promotes an active and healthy lifestyle, along with three other strategic directions:

·       Raising the number of individuals practising various kinds of sports activities and leading an active lifestyle within the community.

·       Developing the efficiency of sports talents and succeeding in Professional Elite Sports.

·       Supporting the overall development of institutions across the sports sector.

These strategic directions are highlighted by two key enablers which particularly focus on the development of regulatory frameworks and sports infrastructure within the UAE as well as improving the profile and prominence of Emirati sports both across the region and globe.

The objective:

The key objective of the consultation is to gather public opinion on the awareness level of the National Sports Strategy - 2031 and its efficiency in encompassing various aspects of sports activities in the UAE in order to aid in the creation of appropriate measures to improve the awareness level of the strategy.

The decisions:

A questionnaire was drafted to evaluate the efficacy of the awareness level of the National Sports Strategy -2031 by collecting feedback and recommendations from the public to implement the suggestions during the ongoing advancement efforts.
